From fear to freedom

This was originally shared as part of The Mother Church’s Wednesday Online testimony meeting. It is also a “Young voices” blog on

I couldn’t fall asleep. The next day I would move into my college dorm, and I felt overcome by a fear of the unknown. I tossed and turned and finally got out of bed and sat at my computer. I went to the Christian Science website that is now Because my fear seemed centered on the unknown, I decided to look up articles on change. One article referenced part of Hymn No. 148 from the Christian Science Hymnal:

In heavenly Love abiding,
   No change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding,
   For nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me,
   My heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me,
   And can I be dismayed?
