The best roadside assistance

God so loved and cared for Moses and the Israelites that not only did He part the Red Sea to save them from the Egyptian army (see Exodus, chap. 14) but He would have moved the mountain beside them if needed (see Mark 11:23). I love that idea, which I read in a Christian Science Sentinel a few years ago. It has helped me have faith in God while raising four children through many challenges.

One of the assurances my husband and I have consistently shared with our children is that none of us can ever fall out of God’s love. Love always surrounds us, holding us and keeping us safe. This was proved just after our third child was born when we had a clear demonstration of God’s protection—and perhaps a sea parting!

My husband was going to take our oldest daughter and our son to an arena football game. I was staying home to work on a paper for graduate school and care for our baby daughter. As they set out, I had a worrying thought. We had just gotten our car back from its second trip to the repair shop to fix some fuel tank problems. We were trusting that on this trip the problem would prove to have been resolved, but I still had a reservation. I thought of them stranded on the side of the interstate in the dark. I quickly dismissed that thought, prayerfully reminding myself of the ways in which God always cares for and leads His children. Going to the football game had seemed like a right idea, and the family would be safe.
