Right now!
“Your present standpoint” by Mark Swinney in the April 7, 2014, Sentinel was really outstanding. I have photocopied it, and underlined too many passages to reference here. But his ideas on putting off the “old man” are so thought provoking. His conclusion is, “Your present spirituality, including your invincible expression of God’s perfection, can never really be your goal since it is already and entirely your present standpoint.” My goal must be, therefore, to recognize my present perfection right now!

Focus on giving and blessing
[“Always employed,” Douglas Paul, April 1, 2014, Sentinel Audio Chat on JSH-Online.com]
I’ve already listened to this chat many times. The combination of correct thinking about the concept of employment plus practical steps around getting and being employed is wonderful. It actually answers a puzzling question I’ve had for a long time, about how to be more productive (answer: focus primarily on giving and blessing, not on getting). As someone who is beginning a job search due to a spouse’s career move, I’m grateful to realize that my focus can be on learning what employers’ needs are, thinking clearly about the qualities I demonstrate, and defending myself and all of us from beliefs about limited human economies.

Editorial reminded me …
Your editorial “Look up and around you!” (March 24, 2014) reminded me of a mother-daughter talk of many years ago. I was in the first trimester of pregnancy. I felt miserable, even though joyfully expecting this baby. I spent most of the day on the sofa, couldn’t eat much, found the simplest odors offensive, and kept the drapes closed, feeling very sorry for myself. One morning my mother appeared. In prompt order, she opened the drapes, instructed me to wash my face, comb my hair, and come back and we would have a talk. The entire talk was based on these eight words: Look up, not down; look out, not in. I could never count the many times I have been able to refer back to that talk. How important it is to get self out of the way—to put God first and to embrace in consciousness the entire family of man.

They spoke to me
It was just like that! I picked up the March 17, 2014, Sentinel and the titles of three testimonies caught my eye—so I read. I was in awe as to how they spoke to me. Each testimony contained a potent idea that immediately met my need in unsought ways. Christ
Jesus said, “Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him” (Matthew 6:8
). Thank you, dear heavenly Father, and thank you to each person who shared their experience.
