Annual Meeting 2014: 'A spiritual foundation of Christ-healing'
Dear Church Members and Friends,
With great joy the Christian Science Board of Directors would like to invite members and other friends around the world to participate in the online-only Annual Meeting 2014. It will be held on June 2 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Saving Time. You will find the webcast at ChristianScience.com/AnnualMeeting.
We’re grateful for all the wonderful healing that Christian Scientists have accomplished in the history of our movement. And we’re keen to continue and strengthen this record of healing that proves, as Christ Jesus did, God’s omnipotence, goodness, and love for all creation. To this end, we’re taking our theme for the meeting from this passage in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing” (p. 136 ).
As the Church Manual by Mrs. Eddy states, the meeting, at which only the Church officers are required to be present, will be for “listening to the reports of Treasurer, Clerk, and Committees, and general reports from the Field” (p. 56 ). We’d love to use these moments together in thought not only to become better informed about how that mission of Jesus is being maintained today, but especially as an opportunity to unite in prayer for the Church and the world it serves—that we may go higher spiritually and fulfill that mission more completely.
In preparation for this special time of prayer together on June 2, please study the message “ ‘Choose Ye’ ” in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pages 3–6. This address by Mrs. Eddy, on the occasion of the dedication of the Extension of The Mother Church in 1906, sets forth for the whole book a tone of loving God supremely. Our hope is that the spiritual readiness and selflessness that she talks about in the address will set the tone for our meeting in June—and beyond.
We look forward with you to Annual Meeting, and we are happy to unite with you at every moment on the basis of the Christ-healing that is the very bedrock of our Church.
Much love from Boston,
Lyle Young, Clerk of The Mother Church
Again we’d love to have you join with us and the other Officers for Annual Meeting 2014—webcast live online at ChristianScience.com/AnnualMeeting on Monday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m. While there will be no in-person gathering in Boston in June, the online meeting will include updates, reports, and global greetings. A replay will be available shortly afterward.
