If someone asked you right now, “What is life?” what would you say?

I often hear people saying, “You know, life is good; life is bad.” Well, yes, we experience that sometimes, but we also experience a flat earth, and it never is flat.

So, is life just a mix of good and bad? Or is it something so much more beautiful, so much more wonderful? I’ve found that the conception of life that we carry around with us—our ideal of life—is actually the biggest factor in how our life goes. So I love exploring this big question—“What is life?”—in the Bible. The Bible says, “The gift of God is eternal life” (Romans 6:23 ). And then it explores this idea of life without beginning and end, especially in the life of Christ Jesus, and how he showed us how to demonstrate and live this Life that is infinite.

Mary Baker Eddy, a staunch student of the Bible and the discoverer of Christian Science, wrote so much about life. I love how she says, “Life is not limited” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 469 ); “Life is the spontaneity of Love, inseparable from Love …” (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 185 ). And she even went further and said, “We all must learn that Life is God” (Science and Health, p. 496 ).

So, today we might want to take a few moments and just explore this profound question: What is Life? And as we get a bigger and deeper and more full sense of infinite Life, right here, right now, then as we go about our day, we’ll experience more of that—more of the spiritual life, the reality, and less of the limits that seem to hold us back.
