Pertinent Bible Lessons

Gil Bird’s article, “Taking direction from God,” in the August 20 Sentinel underlines so clearly what I and my friends have so often said concerning the present pertinence of the Christian Science Bible Lesson, knowing that it was prepared weeks before. As Bird says, the Lessons “are not just amazing. They are amazingly wonderful!” How they constructively address not only personal issues, but often the most demanding international challenges is a constant wonder. But, why should it be a wonder?

We have to consider that the only explanation for this spiritual treatment of human challenges is that there is only one Mind and there is no time. Therefore the Mind that speaks to the Bible Lesson Committee is the same that speaks to each of us, and always in the eternal now. The Bible Lesson Committee is right there, exposing error’s claims and treating faulty human conditions, large or small. We are all so grateful for that spiritual leadership and guidance.

Thanks for publishing Gil Bird’s article. It is so true.

‘A fisherman’s story’

I was reading a testimony in the August 20 Sentinel by Samuela Orth-Moore. She had a wonderful healing of hepatitis, and had found inspiration recalling a Sentinel Radio program that she’d heard years before. On the program she remembered a man describing the healing of blood poisoning from a fish hook that had became lodged in his hand. The man was healed when he “realign[ed] his thought with God’s view of the situation.” To the woman this had become a wake-up call not to believe what she dubbed “a fisherman’s story.” With delight I recognized the program as one my husband, Dave Williams, recorded in October 2004. His healing of blood poisoning took place when he was a college student working a summer hotel job. How very cool it is to know that healing just goes on and on! We may not know about individual instances of good flowing from our sharing, but the blessings flow on nevertheless! I am so grateful for the ideas and testimonies shared.

Never too late

The Sentinel is timeless!

I wept with joy when I read “From Saigon to Boston” [Marilyn Jones] in the June 7, 2004, Sentinel. I know! Here it is eight years later and I just read it. But, I am so glad that I did. The Truth is never out of date. It was what I needed today. To hear that Mary Baker Eddy’s great-great-great grandson and his wife have such appreciation for her life and her discovery demonstrates that all of her prayers and understanding of God’s mothering love transcends generations. It reminds me that all relationships are eternal.
