Diving deeper

A few years ago, someone dear to me made some decisions that hurt me. I couldn’t make sense of this individual’s actions. I kept wondering, “What were they thinking?” I was tempted to spend time and effort looking for answers.

One night, when these nagging questions were monopolizing my thought, I recalled a statement in Science and Health that reads, “We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God’s creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief” (p. 262).

Suddenly, a funny image came to thought. I pictured a scuba diver in my bathtub, “diving into the shallows,” looking for anything that might be there. I thought about how foolish it would be to spend time and effort using scuba gear to look for things in a bathtub. Anything in the tub would be clearly visible from the surface!
