Gratitude for the healing inspiration of hymns

The Christian Science Hymnal has been a source of inspiration, guidance, and protection for me for over 70 years. One example I treasure was when I had been working long hours in a very demanding and stressful position as manager of a credit union. I decided that I needed to adjust my priorities. I prayed with the statement that “Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 454). I had been striving to express more love in my daily relations with what seemed to be a difficult board of directors. Things were going smoothly and I felt I could move on without causing unnecessary disruption to the credit union.

On a Thursday I gave the president of our board an open letter of resignation, stating that I would like to leave but wanted them to have whatever time it would take to locate a qualified replacement. What surprise and relief I felt when the president came into my office the next day with a lovely letter from the board thanking me for all I had done and accepting my resignation effective the following Friday.
