Skin condition healed

I’d like to share a healing that occurred while I was in high school. I was at boarding school, and I developed a skin condition that was extremely painful, particularly when I sat or lay down. As a Christian Scientist, I turned to God in prayer, and I also requested the help of a Christian Science practitioner to support me prayerfully. However, the skin condition continued to spread until sores covered about half my body. I went home for Thanksgiving, and my school felt it was best for me to stay home until I was better.

When things didn’t improve right away, my father, who is not a Christian Scientist, requested that I see a doctor. Even though no one put any pressure on me, I felt torn about seeing a doctor. I really wanted to work this out through prayer. I was also concerned with how other Christian Scientists would view me. But I was comforted by a passage from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, where she wrote: “The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man” (p. 284). 

In reading this passage, I realized that we are directly communicating with God and that it never goes through another person. We have a direct relation with the one Mind, God, and this Mind guides us in all we need to do. Mind thinks and knows only good about us, and in this Mind we are always at peace. In realizing that, I agreed to visit the doctor with my father, and had a sense of peace about going.
