Fireworks!

This issue of the Sentinel happens to be dated July 4, which is Independence Day in the United States. It’s traditionally a day of gathering with family and friends in communities, over barbecues, and under skies lit up by fireworks. A unified day of celebration.

But I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our independence than with healing—independence from physical or mental bonds that may have kept us in shadow. How many of us have felt those inner fireworks—that night sky lit up with sparkles—after we’ve glimpsed a spiritual truth or felt the healing Christ reach our consciousness, bringing spiritual renewal and regeneration?

It was Mary Baker Eddy’s discovery of the divine laws behind Christ Jesus’ healing and teaching, which she named Christian Science, that has opened the way to healing for countless individuals. An interesting note is that exactly 100 years after the Declaration of Independence, on July 4, 1876, a mighty band of seven people, led by Mary Baker Eddy, founded the first Christian Science Association.
