An injury is quickly healed

Years ago, I was preparing for a car trip to meet my mother and sister in Canada. I was moving a large potted plant from the loft in my condo downstairs to the front porch, where it could summer. The stairs were steep, and the pot was heavily packed with soil. I lost my footing and fell down the stairs, twisting my ankle as I landed.

Sitting there with my eyes closed, I immediately held to the truth that I was a spiritual being, perfect in every way and unhurt. I don’t remember how long I sat there, but I continued to pray until the pain subsided and I felt free to move around. Then I got up and finished the job and packed for the trip, getting myself and the house and car in order. My ankle wasn’t painful as I made these preparations.

That night, however, I crawled in bed quite late with a swollen and inflamed ankle. I knew I needed to see more clearly the statement in Science and Health that “accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind.” It continues, “and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony.
