Leaning on God’s strength

Many years ago, after a divorce, I lived in the Midwest and experienced ice storms on my own for the first time. One day I was in the middle of putting on an event where I worked, and came home trying to carry a heavy pot into the house. As I moved it, I was thinking resentful thoughts about the fact that there was no one around to help me do the heavy lifting anymore.

Suddenly, I slipped on the ice and twisted my knee. Immediately, I turned to God for help and assurance of His care, as I always do in times of need. I was able to sleep peacefully that night and thought that was the end of the problem.

However, the next day at work I was having some difficulty navigating the property where the event was to take place, so I went home. That night, as I lay in bed, the pain became so severe that I realized I needed to go deeper in prayer to understand God’s total care and love for me. I needed to turn my thought wholeheartedly to God, knowing He was an ever-present help in trouble. So I became still and listened to what God was telling me about myself as His child.
