Spiritual bedrock
“It all comes back to the Bible.”
That thought came to me a few weeks ago as I was reading an article on Christian Science. It was a gentle reminder that the spiritual principles articulated in the Bible are really the bedrock of all Christian Science healing. In fact, in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy made a special note that Christian Scientists “take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life” (p. 497). Every healing and every article published in the Sentinel has its roots in the Scriptures.
This issue, devoted specifically to the Bible, shows how an appreciation and understanding of “the good Book” helps and heals. In our cover story, Lyle Young shares some of the healing messages he’s found in the Bible—as well as some of the passages he’s had to grapple with. He writes that in the Bible, “. . . we find a spirituality, an equality, and a humanity that transcend anything material . . . a teaching that uplifts and redeems all cultures” (p. 6). Our cover section also includes several stories shared by spirituality.com visitors in a recent “Question of the Week.” Their examples illustrate vividly how the Bible meets our deepest needs—for healing, for guidance, for meaning and belonging—and does so in tangible, sometimes surprising ways. And don’t miss the “Items of Interest” column this week. Did you ever think you could own a Bible that had gone to the moon and back?
