No more back pain
Last winter I was healed through Christian Science of a painful back condition that made it extremely difficult for me to lie down. I could walk, stand, or sit, but when I tried to go to bed at night, it was extremely painful to lie down in any position. I slept sitting up in a chair or on the sofa, propped up with pillows. I prayed and studied the Bible and Science and Health, by Mary Baker Eddy, in order to see my freedom and spiritual perfection as a child of God.
I also studied the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly each day, and tried to understand the truth about my spiritual being. I claimed my freedom from pain or any harmful bodily condition, but found no relief. When there was no physical improvement after almost two weeks, I began to feel quite concerned and fearful.
The next Monday morning I opened the Christian Science Quarterly to the Bible Lesson for that week, and the subject was “Unreality.” I found many gems of inspiration that helped. The
Golden Text, John 14:27, read, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid,” and in the Responsive Reading, Isaiah 41:10, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.” And from Science and Health, “Christian scientific practice begins with Christ’s keynote of harmony, ‘Be not afraid!’ ” (p. 410) and “If you succeed in wholly removing the fear, your patient is healed” (pp. 411–412).
