The Mother Church President’s blog
Keeping in touch
The President of The Mother Church, Marta Greenwood, of London, England, is not only a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, but also serves on the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. To keep in touch with Church members, Marta is posting regular blogs in the Church Alive Community on christianscience.com.
One day after church I dropped in to my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant to have lunch. At the door, I asked one of the waiters if they had a table for one. He said, “No, sorry, we’re full up!” I looked over his shoulder and only one table was taken (with a group of women) and the rest of the restaurant was empty. So I stepped in, took a corner seat, and bravely ordered a meal. Under the suspicious stares of all the waiters, my confidence soon faded. I wondered whether I should just leave. But, in a flash, my meal was in front of me. Obviously, they hoped this would get rid of me quickly. But I wasn’t hungry anymore.
I thought: “Marta, are you going to just take this, or heal the situation with scientific prayer? You are a follower of a movement discovered and led by Mary Baker Eddy, a woman. Just think what she stood up to, bringing freedom to all. She wasn’t scared of anything. That work needs to be continued by her followers. Christian Science brought you from being a timid and scared Middle Eastern woman to standing up for your rights and doing things you never dreamed of doing. Now, share that gift of God’s grace with all the women in the world.”
