Immobility reversed
I remember being told that in healing, as in mathematics, we start with the appropriate rule and work outward, rather than becoming fearful about the problem itself. As Mary Baker Eddy wrote: “Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 174). We always start with God, who is Truth, Life, and Love, the only reality. In mathematics, one doesn’t add when one needs to subtract. In Christian Science, we subtract from our thinking every unloving thought and add loving or good thoughts based on Truth.
This reasoning was helpful in a healing I had a little less than a year ago. One morning I woke up and found I wasn’t able to stand. There seemed to be a lack of strength in both feet.
I immediately turned to prayer, as I was accustomed to doing, and tried to read the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson. But I was almost overwhelmed with fear, wondering what might happen to me. I began playing an album of hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal on my CD player, but I wasn’t able to concentrate on their healing message.
