NEW VIEWS OF GOD'S GOODNESS—IN SOUTH KOREA

A Christian Science practitioner, who now spends most of the year in South Korea, shares her journey and how her ministry embraces the community.

WHEN I WAS NINE, I came downstairs one morning to see Mom sitting in the dining room with sunlight streaming in on her. I've never forgotten that picture, because it was the first time Mom had been downstairs in nearly three years. Under the care of a kindly doctor, she'd been battling a terminal disease until Christian Science healed her.

The Christian Science practitioner who healed Mom lived in a nearby town, and I lived in her home when I went to college. Her ministry extended over a wide radius, as she drove out regularly to visit those who were too far away to attend the local Christian Science church. Living in her home gave me a bird's-eye view of the selfless effort she invested in her healing work. I wanted to be like her and help others.

And that's just what happened—not all at once, but gradually over time. Sunday School and Bible Lesson study, together with meaningful activities as a teenage church member, expanded my horizons and helped me grow in understanding. Soon after marriage, I took Primary class instruction in Christian Science. A few years later, I opened an office for the healing practice in the college town near our farm.
