HEALED OF SEVERE ILLNESS
One December some years ago, while working in the activities department of a Christian Science nursing facility, I was taking care of arrangements for an upcoming staff Christmas party. As the week progressed, my throat felt sore when I swallowed, and I quickly turned to prayer for healing. When I was a student in the Christian Science Sunday School, in one class, one of our weekly assigments was to memorize passages from the Bible and Science and Health, and store them in our "mental treasure chest"—there for our use whenever we needed them. During that week of party preparation, I went to those treasures many times.
But soon one side of my neck became swollen, and swallowing was painful and more difficult. On the evening of the event, the spiritual truths I was praying with helped me accomplish all that was needed on my part. I was able to enjoy the gathering, and left the party with a grateful heart.
When I arrived home, however, I began to feel very ill. I called my mother, who came and stayed with me, voicing spiritual truths throughout the night. I also called my Christian Science teacher for prayerful help. Over the next several days, she assured me on a daily basis of my victory over any claim that would try to fool me into believing that I could be separated from God. I kept my thoughts focused on the spiritual fact that I reflected the perfect God.
