QUICK HEALING OF STOMACH FLU SYMPTOMS
My husband and I were looking forward to a visit with my family for our spring break vacation from graduate school. However, just one day after arriving, I woke up early in the morning with all the symptoms of the stomach flu. First thing in the morning, I called a Christian Science practitioner to support my prayers, as the aggressive symptoms made it difficult to quiet my thought and pray clearly. Her peaceful reassurance that I was not, nor could I ever be, separated from God's love instantly calmed my thought, and consequently brought me comfort. We continued to pray together throughout the day.
I had two significant spiritual breakthroughs during the day. First, I'd been praying to understand that contagion had no power over me or anyone else. Several other members of my family had been hit by the stomach flu in the weeks preceding our visit, and all had experienced quick and wonderful healings in Christian Science. The thought that it was my turn to deal with this, and that I was being punished for taking care of one individual who was unwell the day we arrived, persistently nagged at my thought. As I prayed, it occurred to me that my family members weren't material beings, emitting bad germs and sickness; they were spiritual beings and they were all praying for me, exuding love and inspiration. And I was totally safe in that atmosphere of prayerful, loving thought. This was the first step to my healing. Though I was still uncomfortable, at the moment I had this revelation, the most aggressive symptoms abated.
Second, the Responsive Reading for the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson included the citation "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven" (Ps. 119:89). This verse initially stood out because my stomach was literally feeling unsettled at the time, and the bold statement that God was settled—sure, confident, and steady—made me pause. More than being physically unsettled, I realized that I'd been feeling mentally unsettled for some time—churning with worry about various details in the future. This Bible verse put a stop to those worries. It meant that my future was not uncertain, potentially lacking something, or tumultuous. It was the product of God, Life's harmonious and continuously good unfoldment. I could trust God with every aspect of my being.
