FOR TEENS

Off the bench!

I'VE always been interested in sports and have been playing different sports since I was little. My favorite sport is soccer, and basketball is my next favorite. One of my favorite Bible passages that I've applied to sports is "It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect" (Ps. 18:32). I love the idea that God is giving me strength, and keeping me wrapped up tightly in His arms.

A few years ago I had a healing during basketball season that really made a big impression on me. In the winter of 2007, when I was in sixth grade, I was playing on a league basketball team that traveled to other towns for tournaments just about every Saturday. There were four games throughout the day, with long breaks in between games as other teams played. During the breaks our team would eat, watch other games, and just hang out together.

On one Saturday, our team had just finished our third game, and we were hanging out in the halls of a large high school. For some reason, there was a utility vehicle in the hall. It had big wide tires and was probably used to carry tables and chairs and other equipment. I was standing in front of it, a couple of girls were sitting on the back bench in it. One girl accidentally hit the pedal with her foot, and it moved forward (no one knew it was in gear) and ran over my right foot.
