THE CHRISTIAN SCIENTIFIC METHOD

I've been thinking lately about the scientific method, the techniques used in any scientific discipline to guide discovery and investigation. This method puts an emphasis on collecting empirical data, generating useful and verifiable hypotheses, and performing tests under controlled situations.

Christian Science embodies the same level of scientific rigor. True spiritual healing is based on sound metaphysical principles, is repeatable, and can be practised by anyone willing to learn the methodology. Christianly scientific practice is miles away from emotion, or mere religious faith, or simple guesswork. Our issue this week focuses on how scientific prayer, which results in tangible, reproducible healing, is reliable and practical.

In our article, Bill Moody discusses some of the rules that undergird the successful practice of Christian Science healing. Just as the scientific method guides intellectual inquiry, spiritual imperatives guide Christian Scientists in their metaphysical work. And as Bill points out, "Because the healing practice does have a Christianly scientific basis, its rules are precise and open to everyone to be demonstrated."
