BURN QUICKLY HEALED THROUGH PRAYER

One cold evening last December, the fire had gone out in the fireplace in our living room. My wife was working to rekindle it when I walked by. There was a large log in the back that she was having a hard time moving. I offered to help, and without thinking, reached in to pick up what appeared to be a non-burning log. As I picked it up, the log burst into flames. I quickly dropped it, but not before my fingers were severely burned.

I am a Christian Scientist. My wife is not. But she understands my desire to handle situations such as this through prayer, and I knew that she would be supporting my decision.

I went into the bedroom and sat with the lights out since I didn't want to look at my fingers, which were very painful. Even though the room was dark except for the light coming in under the door, I kept my eyes closed to help me prayerfully focus my thoughts. I wanted to get a more spiritual outlook, and to cherish my status as a child of God—an identity I knew could never be touched by any harm.
