she saved the day!

the story of Abigail—as told by her servant

Let me tell you about Abigail. You see, she showed me how one person alone can make a difference for everyone.

I was a young man, a servant at Nabal's house when this true story happened. Nabal owned a lot of land in Carmel, and thousands of sheep and goats. He also had many servants like me to take care of everything. People thought of Nabal as a rough and cruel man. But everyone knew that Abigail, his wife, brought kindness wherever she went. Abigail was beautiful on the inside and out.

Just because Nabal was wealthy, it didn't mean Abigail could do whatever she wanted. She had to do what he wanted her to do. I can still hear him call, "Abigail!" demanding food or wine or a huge banquet. But I never heard Abigail complain as she carefully watched over the kitchen and cooking and the harvest.
