A CHANGE OF THINKING BROUGHT HEALING

When my two children approached their teenage years, I suddenly began to carefully watch my weight. Every morning I'd stand on the scale, and if the number was what I thought it should be, I'd be happy. If it wasn't I'd be sad and disappointed, telling myself to watch what I ate and try harder. Every day my mood was set by how much I weighed. This went on for at least a year.

Then one day I noticed a large wart on my foot. That was strange. I had not had warts since my childhood. Every morning I continued with my regular practice of reading the Christian Science Bible Lesson from the Bible and Science and Health. But I did not give any specific thought or prayer at that time to this wart or to the concern about my weight.

Even though I didn't give myself specific prayer treatment for the healing of either situation, I was trying to understand myself better spiritually. And in retrospect I realize that my prayer and study were helping me understand more about God and His creation. I'd had many healings since my college days when I first started studying Christian Science—healings of allergies and flulike symptoms, as well as protection while traveling abroad. I could see how passages from the Bible or Science and Health related directly to my experience and had ultimately led to healing.
