QUICK HEALING AFTER FALL

I began studying Christian Science when I was 14, soon after my mother and I attended a Christian Science lecture.

I'd been so impressed with what I heard because I could see from what the speaker said that matter itself—my body in particular—had no power to do anything on its own. I could see that it was what I believed about it that affected how I felt. The speaker was so convincing as he emphasized the idea that God, good, was Spirit and that each of us naturally expresses God's spiritual qualities.

This way of thinking was a relief. I'd been to doctors throughout my childhood and had had an ear operation for a diagnosed mastoid condition when I was about six years old. I was afraid that the same problem would occur in the other ear, since the doctor predicted that it could. But I became convinced that what I was hearing in that talk about Christian Science was the truth. Later I read in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "That matter is substantial or has life and sensation, is one of the false beliefs of mortals, and exists only in a supposititious mortal consciousness" (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 278).
