Bee sting—gone!

DURING SUMMER VACATION  I went with many other kids to a Christian Science camp in the Black Forest in Germany. That's a camp where you can do fun activities and also live Christian Science together with others.

One day, as I was walking barefoot outside in the grass, I accidentally stepped on a bee. It hurt a lot. On one leg I hobbled over to a deck chair and sat down next to a friend. A camp counselor came over to make sure I was OK. And she prayed with me. Together we listened to God and shared thoughts that came to us.

I knew that God is Love, and I thought about how there is never anything missing in Love. God loves all His creation, the bees too, and gives everyone joy and well-being all the time. So I thought my joy and well-being couldn't ever be missing.

The counselor told me something I really liked. She said the thought that a bee sting is poisonous for humans is simply something people have been taught to believe is true. But that didn't make it true, and I didn't need to believe it or be afraid of it. I realized that it had to be wrong because God made everything good. And He is the only Creator. That's what I had learned in Sunday School.

I thought about this for a while, and it made me feel good. A little later I was able to pull the stinger out of my foot, and I noticed that there was hardly any mark left. The pain was gone, and I could step on my foot without any problem.
