A HEALING WARMTH

It's natural to want health and wholeness. And it's something we all deserve to feel. But what's behind the healing that people long for?

"What heals" has been proven to be so much more than drugs, or even one's best efforts to pray. This week's Sentinel alerts us to the power of the healing Christ—the agent of all true healing, which was essential to Jesus' works. The warmth of the Christ in our lives undoubtedly meets, then defeats, whatever seems to oppose physical or moral restoration.

In our lead article, "Take a walk with the Master-healer!" Mary Trammell gives some historical context on the gradual marginalization of Jesus' healing works. She points out that even after Jesus' resurrection, his followers made efforts to relegate healing to the "mysterious" category, impractical for the ordinary person. But, she observes, the Christ simply couldn't be hidden—something critical happened when the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "turned upside down those old theological assumptions about Jesus." And she concludes that "Jesus' theology, far from being just about character reformation and living a peaceful, happy life, has finally been shown to be all about healing" (see p. 8).
