ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER
GOD WAS LEADING ME
I GREW UP in the Republic of Panama, in a home filled with love from my aunts Daisy and Lenteen and from my cousins Jacinta, Horacio, and Clarence. I first learned about Christian Science at the age of eight. At that time Aunt Lenteen, who raised me, was healed of diagnosed breast cancer through the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner. She began to take me to a Christian Science Sunday School, and I grew up naturally relying on and trusting in God. The nearness of God became a powerful idea that never left me, and it brought about many healings in my life. This began to lay a foundation for my journey into the public practice of Christian Science. And after having Christian Science class instruction a few years ago, I began to set aside time on a regular basis to pray for others and rented a downtown office together with another person interested in praying for others.
After moving to the United States, I held several positions, including working as a janitor, up to an assistant professor in military science at a university. As an Army Reservist, I was deployed for one year to Afghanistan and Kuwait, and served as Detachment Commander, providing life support services, such as food, water, housing, and transportation to US troops. During this time I recognized the constant opportunity for me to be humble as I prayed daily and clung to thoughts from Science and Health and the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson for support.
One experience that taught me a great deal had to do with a challenging working relationship. I began to feel irritated and distracted by an individual I thought had unfairly accused me a number of times of something that I knew was not true.
