Free from darkness

In an interview for the Sentinel's radio edition, Peggy Glover tells how she broke free from grief after the tragic loss of her daughter. Grief's darkness at first seemed inescapable, but through prayer, her art, and a granddaughter's challenging question, Peggy gradually found the light of God's saving love that was always there for her and her family. Now retired from her work as food service supervisor for the Marin County Jail, north of San Francisco, Peggy volunteers in several capacities for her Christian Science branch church in Petaluma, California. She spoke with Sentinel Radio producer Rita Politan.

We're talking today about overcoming grief, which I know is not an easy thing to do, and I know you had an experience where you had to do that. Can you tell us about it?

Yes. In 1994 my daughter, Jeri, was murdered. I was instantly transported into a darkness that was beyond anything I'd ever experienced. She was murdered by her youngest daughter's father, who also killed himself and left a 12-year-old and a three-year-old behind.
