PRAYER THAT DEFEATS ECONOMIC DARKNESS
A RECENT CBS News poll found "economic anxiety among Americans as high as it has ever been" since first asking that question in 1986 (The New York Times, October 2, 2008). As the credit crisis goes on, threats to venture capital—which funds innovation in places like Silicon Valley—are acting like a spreading drought. European banks are in need of rescue, and major efforts have been made in the UK as well as some other countries. And, although they are somewhat insulated, Asian markets are also feeling the results of the credit crunch.
AT EVERY REPORT OF LOOMING DISASTER, THE DEMAND ON READERS OF THIS MAGAZINE WILL BE TO DECLARE, "NEVERTHELESS, DIVINE LOVE IS STILL THE ULTIMATE POWER."
