ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER

MAKING ROOM FOR THE TRUTH THAT HEALS

FOR ME, being a Christian Science healer is about making room for God—the great "I AM THAT I AM" (Ex. 3:14). Recently I was awestruck, in an inspired way, to realize that is one of the few entirely capitalized phrases in the Bible. Glimpsing in some measure the vastness of God's presence and infinite nature, I want to be sure I'm ready to listen and am always making room for His ideas.

Yet listening for divine direction hasn't always been easy. About seven years ago, when people began asking me to pray for them, I didn't feel ready for the full-time public practice of Christian Science. I felt a little like Jonah when he "rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord" (Jonah 1:3). In my case, I had an established and profitable marketing business, and I loved the Christian Science practitioners already in our area. Was there really a need for another?

Still, I devoted myself part time to the healing practice, and became increasingly aware of the inexpressible joy it brought; also at the same time, I realized how sacred a calling it is. I felt sure that if the requests for my prayers kept coming, there could only be blessing for everyone. Then I wholeheartedly committed myself to praying full time. And I got much better at listening.
