FROM FINANCIAL STRAITS TO SOLID GROUND
"Whether the challenge looks difficult or easy," says Kathryn Wilkinson, "I've always turned to God in prayer for guidance." In a recent interview with Sentinel Senior Writer Warren Bolon, Kathryn describes herself as a life-long, third-generation Christian Scientist who's always "prayed my way through life's challenges." Following her schooling, Kathryn entered the computer industry as a programmer, eventually becoming an IT (information technology) instructor, a career that's spanned more than 30 years. Soon after she and her husband moved to the southeast of England, where they live today, her employer at the time invited her to form her own business and provide their IT training.
Warren Bolon: So you accepted the invitation?
Kathryn Wilkinson: As I prayed about it, starting my own business seemed an enormous step even though I'd had several years of experience as an IT trainer. But I was absolutely certain right from the beginning that God was the "senior partner" in this business and I was the junior partner. My business thrived for over ten years. I didn't recognize, though, the signs that it was time to change course, so for another three years I fought hard to keep the business going. One day I received a cancellation of a course and realized I had no forward bookings. It felt like that was the end, and I was totally desolate. The following months were the hardest times of my life. My husband and I decided to put our large house on the market and move to a smaller property when ours sold in order to reduce the financial pressure of our mortgage.
