TERRORISM AND PRAYER

TERRORISM is of chronic concern to the modern-day world. It lingers in the background, eclipsed by other headlines. But in a flash, it can become acute, and dominate public attention almost to the exclusion of all else.

Whether we're talking about the shock of actual terrorist incidents or the underlying unease over their possibility, this topic needs the ongoing prayer of as many as will take up the charge. And sometimes it's better, even easier, to give attention to problems when they're not acute.

Not that people haven't seen their share of terrorism headlines lately. Incidents this past December included the muchpublicized Westroads Mall shootings in Omaha, Nebraska, and the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Then there are the countries suspected of engaging in various terrorist activities, as well as places such as Sudan and the eastern Congo region, where citizens face daily threats to their safety at the hands of warring factions.
