PROTECTED FROM INJURY

After a prolonged drought where we live in Queensland, Australia, this year, my wife, Christine, and I decided to order another large water tank to provide a backup supply for our home, as well as for our collection of orchids. With the primary dam near Brisbane, the capital city, down to 16 percent of capacity, the main cities in southeast Queensland have all been facing tough level-6 water restrictions, which means virtually no outside watering.

To prepare for the installation of the tank, I leveled a sloping site next to our house and spread the area with finely crushed rock. I then filled a large household waste bin which stood waist-high with the surplus rock, for packing against the tank on the high side of the hill once the tank was in position.

When the tank arrived after dark that night, much later than the expected time, the truck driver decided that the safest route to the prepared site was not the one I'd planned. He decided instead to roll the tank up our steep drive and across the front of the house.
