A GROWING CERTAINTY ABOUT GOD'S INFINITUDE AND INCLUSIVE CARE INEVITABLY DIMINISHES FEAR IN HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS.

'HAVE NO OTHER TRUSTS'

THINK WHAT THE WORLD would be like without trust. From the moment we get up in the morning until we go to sleep at night, we trust that the sun will rise, that our friends and family love us, and many other things besides.

Similarly, on the global scene, treaties, mutual defense pacts, and so forth couldn't exist without trust. When financial markets became unstable a few weeks ago, international bankers and government officers from various nations joined to stabilize the world economy. They trusted enough to risk billions of dollars for this larger purpose — knowing that the financial health of all their countries could be at stake.

Trust of this type often rests on one's knowledge of the other individuals involved. But this keeps it on a very "I know you, so you're OK" basis. To put our trust on a foundation that transcends personal relations, we need to lift it to God, who is divine Truth. Mary Baker Eddy described this type of trust when she addressed church members in 1903. "Trust in Truth," she told them, "and have no other trusts" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 171).
