WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA'S Greek-American community was rallying [August 28] to support residents in regions of Greece where wildfires have [raged] . . . in the past six days.

Pittsburgh is home to one of the largest Greek communities in the United States, with nearly 40,000 people who identify themselves as having Greek ancestry, according to GlobalPittsburgh.org, a Web site of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. . . .

"These fires unfortunately are becoming a perennial issue in Greece," said the Rev. John Touloumes, head priest at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in the North Side.
