LUMP HEALED THROUGH PERSISTENT PRAYER
Some years ago a lump formed on my chest. Because I had relied on the healing power of God all my life, I turned naturally to prayer for healing.
Through my study of the Bible and Christian Science, I had learned that God is Spirit, good, and is All. Therefore, disease and all claims of discord must in fact have no basis in reality. This meant to me that no matter what the physical condition appeared to look like, I needed to affirm my existence as a spiritual creation of God, exempt from evil of any kind, including disease. I knew that this condition was not true about my spiritual identity and that in order to be healed, this was what I needed to see more clearly. In other words, my thought needed to be corrected. Still, for a while, I was struggling with dismay and the fear that perhaps I would die.
Although I considered calling a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me, I felt that I had enough understanding of Christian Science to handle this situation through my own prayers. I held to a favorite thought from the Bible: "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord" (ps. 118: 17). I was able to overcome the fear of death by realizing that I lived in God. My endeavor was to learn more about what this life in God really meant. Science and Health says: "Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal" (p. 246).
