LUMP DISSOLVED THROUGH PRAYER

Several years ago, I was taking a shower one morning and noticed a large protruding lump in my pelvic area. Fearful suggestions of what it could be, or if the condition was serious, seemed overwhelming. Then, the lump became painful.

Since I was a student of Christian Science, I knew from prior experience that turning to God in prayer would bring healing results. I prayed to know that my substance was spiritual, made up of God-given qualities. This was just another opportunity to prove my spiritual identity. Loosening the grip of fear on my thought would be the first step to healing.

I called a friend who is also a Christian Scientist, in order to help me pray. We talked about this line in Science and Health: "We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, .... But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?" (p. 563). To me, the statement meant that although the condition seemed so real and intimidating, it really had no real substance if God wasn't behind it. I knew that God is Spirit, and I was His spiritual reflection. I prayed to see that my life was actually safe with my Father-Mother God right then, and I began to feel calm. Soon, the fear dissolved, and I was able to focus my attention on praying.
