The gentling effects of God's Mother-love

I often go for long walks near my house and use this time to pray.

One beautiful crisp fall day, I was walking along feeling very burdened with a difficult situation at work. Suddenly I thought, "You know, you can change your thinking. You don't have to accept this." I turned wholeheartedly to God. And the next thought that came to me was the Mother-love of God—that it's very real and always with us. That became the focus of my thinking.

Looking up, I saw a chipmunk a short distance away, in the middle of the road. It was standing on its hind feet, chattering and very agitated. I was still fully aware of those thoughts about God's Mother-love. Then as I moved closer, I saw that the chipmunk was standing over a baby chipmunk. The baby was apparently alive and well, but paralyzed with fear, and had flattened itself against the road, gripping on to it for dear life.
