GOD'S UNLIMITED POWER TO HEAL

First appeared on spirituality.com on December 7, 2006

One moment I was standing on a chair, reaching for a curtain rod above the window to hang some curtains. The next, the chair slid out from under me, and I tumbled to the floor. I reached out my right arm to try to break my fall as I hit the floor—and heard a loud crack.

Instantly I felt intense pain in my wrist and saw a very unnatural bowed shape to my arm. I couldn't help but feel alarmed. As a Christian Scientist, I had experienced many healings through prayer and had learned to rely on the power of God for help in all kinds of situations. But a broken or dislocated bone? In those first moments, I wasn't so sure.

Because I wasn't sure what to do, I reached out to God for direction. It seemed best to call a Christian Science practitioner and ask for treatment. A practitioner is someone who devotes his or her life to praying for people in need of healing. The practitioner assured me that I was the perfect child of a perfect God. He reminded me that my substance was wholly spiritual, and that I could never fall from God's infinite care.
