RESTORED TO HEALTH THROUGH PRAYER
A couple of winters ago, I found myself facing one of the most serious challenges I'd ever experienced. At first I thought it was just the flu, reports of which were in the news at the time, but this turned out not to be the case. I began experiencing extreme weakness, coughing, and loss of weight and natural color, and the condition only seemed to worsen.
It was natural for me to turn to God in prayer, as I'd been taught to do growing up. My life was one of relying on God through the teachings of Christian Science, and that was also true both for my wife and our children, who were a great support to me. From time to time, I also contacted a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer.
In my own prayers, the facts about my true existence as a creation of God began to dawn in my thinking. In the course of a serious study of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, I saw how much I had yet to learn, but how necessary it was to understand my spiritual individuality more clearly. Now was the time to demonstrate—to prove for myself—what I knew to be true about God's great love for me, rather than just to profess it.
