At long last, Love
Like the title of the song,
"At Long Last Love,"
I wondered if I ever would,
Could clearly come, to a so long-awaited
Feeling, and experience
That there really is a God—
That He truly does adore me
(As the fortunate, enlightened ones forever say).
I heard no shouts of laughter,
No whisperings of wisdom,
Saw no bursts of light or rainbows,
Felt no feathers or the touch of angel wings.
But a quiet little question
Kept repeating and repeating:
"What of conscience, intuition?
How can you continue to ignore
These most persistent and consistent,
Yes, increasingly insistent things?"
