'PEACE BE STILL'

One Saturday last year as I was looking for my car in a parking garage, I tripped. Before I knew it, I was lying flat on the floor. My cheek bone and support hand had hit the concrete hard, and one of my ankles was in great pain.

I began shouting out loud all the facts that came to me about God and my relationship to Him—concepts based on the fact that God's creation, including my identity, is entirely spiritual. This included ideas that I had learned in Christian Science, such as that there are no accidents in God's kingdom; that God loves me and nothing can separate me from Him; that I am the divine Mind's spiritual idea—and an idea cannot be hurt.

When I felt calmer, I hobbled to my car and drove home using my uninjured foot, still declaring the truth. It felt as though I'd severely twisted my ankle. At home I sat quietly and prayed by lifting my thought to God to understand my identity as His spiritual child, able only to experience painless harmony. I didn't look at the ankle or apply ice or any other medical remedy, since I wanted to rely entirely on spiritual healing.
