LETTERS

It was with great interest that I read the April 3 issue dealing with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ["Courage to go forward"]. How inspiring to read of such courage, patience, and total reliance on God when confronted with devastation and loss!

I thought readers might be interested in learning more about how Christian Scientists helped fellow students during that time of need. The Principle Foundation, an organization that offers practical support to Christian Scientists in difficult times, received an outpouring of calls from individuals, churches, and college organizations during the aftermath of the hurricanes. Christian Scientists were looking for a vehicle to help fellow Christian Scientists. The Principle Foundation contacted churches, practitioners, and individuals, to let them know how we were available to offer assistance. Besides giving financial aid, the Foundation was able to put individuals in touch with organizations in different parts of the country offering other types of assistance.

It was interesting that with all the calls received from those affected by the hurricanes, not one complained about his or her plight. The many examples we saw of selflessness, joy, humility, and trust in God were inspiring and uplifting.
