UNDERSTANDING GOD'S NATURE BRINGS HEALING

The teaching of Christian Science point to the fact that an understanding of God's good and loving nature, discerned and accepted, will bring healing, whatever the situation. Mary Baker Eddy wrote, "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 390). I have experienced innumerable proofs of this truth.

Once while at college, I was injured on the soccer field by a collision with another player. The impact resulted in great abdominal pain, and I asked friends to take me to my room. Having attended a Christian Science Sunday School, and having been in the habit of successfully turning to God in prayer for healing, I found it natural to face this situation with prayer.

I asked God for a fuller understanding of His nature and supremacy, His perfect, painless harmony—and of my own harmonious nature as His loved child. Because the fear and pain were so great, I called a Christian Science practitioner in a distant city to ask her to pray with me. By bedtime, I felt sufficient relief to get a good night's sleep.
