WE LEARNED THAT GOD TRULY IS EVERYWHERE

In the spring of 2003, my husband and I vacationed in South America, in a place we'd been before and had thoroughly enjoyed, both culturally and environmentally.

On our first day, we took a midafternoon visit to a particularly beautiful architectural site. When we arrived, the front door was closed, so we walked around the block hoping to find another entrance. At that point, three large men came from behind and attacked my husband. In hindsight, it appeared to have been an attempted robbery. My first response was to call out for help to the other people on the street. Everyone I turned to quickly averted their eyes. My second response was to get into the middle of the fighting. I figured that if I diverted one of the men, my husband would have a better chance of fighting off the other two. But I was shoved aside.

Having all material aids desert me, I put my arms down, closed my eyes, stood still, and cried out to God. I'm not entirely certain if I literally cried aloud or not; I just know that I plunged my thought into God wholly and completely. What I became aware of was God's absolute, indisputable omnipresence. I knew that God was with me, right then and there—and I could feel His Father-Mother presence being so much bigger and more tangible than anyone or anything present on that street. At that moment, nothing else had power.
