SHE LISTENED FOR GOD'S WORD: INJURY HEALED

In April 2005 I took a bouquet of flowers to my mother in her assisted living apartment. She was pleased, but as I cut off the floral wrappings with her old rusty scissors, they slipped and landed point down on the top of my exposed, sandaled foot. There was a lot of blood and pain, which frightened me. Just then, a woman appeared to escort Mother to her weekly hair appointment.

Alone in her apartment, I declared an accident to be wholly impossible. My study of Christian Science has taught me that God's power, which brings no pain, reigns in my life with consistency. Therefore, anything opposed to His control, such as an accident, is false and without basis. A sentence from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, memorized long ago, immediately came to thought: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony" (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 424).

I bandaged my foot and walked to the car. I'd been rushing around that afternoon—trying to sandwich in a visit to Mother and shop for groceries before the arrival of grandchildren, all before a scheduled meeting at our house with an electrician.
