THE MIRAGE A PASSAGE TO HEALING

It was late in the afternoon as my husband and I headed down a mountain into the Mojave Desert in the southern part of California. Although we had been driving for several hours and had a few more to go before we reached home, we marveled at the amazing scenery. It was majestic and beautiful.

At one point, we caught sight of a distant lake. It was breathtaking, with rock formations rising from the depths of clear waters. The rocks were reflected in the lake, and there were lovely beaches around them. The closer we got, the more we seemed to see, including rippling waves.

There was no lake there, however. The map didn't show it. There was only desert. We soon realized it was a mirage—a view that looked real and substantial to the human eye, but was, in fact, an illusion.
