BUSINESS PROBLEM QUICKLY RESOLVED

The deadline was tomorrow, and I still hadn't received my goods. I ran a small gift importing business, and the stock I had ordered some months before had arrived in Sydney by ship two weeks earlier. But as a result of strike action by wharf workers, the ship still hadn't been unloaded. Some of my customers had threatened to cancel their orders if they didn't receive their goods by the next day. They had been ordered specially for Christmas sales, and we could not have easily sold these items at any other time of the year.

I was very angry. I couldn't understand how some people could be so unhelpful. Why wouldn't they go back to work? In my opinion, they were very well paid. HEALING

However, I soon realized that this sort of thinking was getting me nowhere. The laws governing employment in Australia include the right to strike if one isn't satisfied with pay and conditions. Whereas I had no quarrel with this right, I did want my goods. I phoned my shipping agents for an update and was told that there was no likelihood of the goods being available before the end of the week, and this was only Monday.
