SPIRITUAL CURRENTS STIR THE PRACTICE OF LAW
IN A GRADUAL SHIFT from spring to summer, the change of seasons can go almost unnoticed. Change can occur in professions, schools of thought, and even society as a whole, in much the same way. Perhaps majority attitudes or modes of practice have hardened into a fixed and dominant paradigm, yet eventually that model is found wanting. Hunger for a better, higher-minded, more beneficent model grows. So it has tended to be with the law practice in the United States and other common law countries, where an aggressive, adversarial ethos often prevails. But for how long?
